Nitrogen Application
As
we all know, this year has been filled with trials. With extreme above average
rainfall, poorly drained fields are showing severe signs of nitrogen
deficiency. The below images are of a customer’s field that we deemed necessary
to late season top dress urea. This particular area of my territory has by far
seen the most rainfall over the growing season. Whenever a rain event occurred
there was major ponding of water in standing corn and caused nitrogen
immobilization and leaching in the soil profile. This customer top dressed 60
pounds of urea on July 24 and I would expect to see an immediate crop response
just in time for the reproductive stages of the corn. This will be evident in
the weeks to come by comparing crop health images.
